Start with why
Before buying anything, decide what you want crypto for: holding long term, sending money abroad, or learning how it works. That answer tells you which assets matter and how much risk makes sense.
A simple rule many people follow: begin with an amount you could watch drop by half without it affecting your life.
Day 1-2: set up and secure
- Create your My Chain account and confirm your email.
- Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app. My Chain requires it.
- Write down your 12-word wallet phrase on paper and store it somewhere private.
Security first means nothing you do later depends on luck.
Day 3-4: pick one or two assets
Most beginners start with a large, well-known asset such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, or a stablecoin like USDT if they want dollar value without price swings. Read the asset pages to understand what each one is for.
Day 5: make a small first deposit
Buy on a reputable exchange, then send a small test amount to your My Chain deposit address. Check the network matches before you press send. Once it arrives, send the rest.
Day 6-7: learn the routine
Look up your deposit on a block explorer, try receiving and sending a small amount, and read about network fees. These habits make every later transaction calmer.
